The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) in conjunction with most of the countrys major insurance companies and thousands of independent insurance agents, offers flood insurance to individuals and businesses. The NFIP was created by Congress to provide flood insurance for property owners in flood prone communities. In exchange for flood insurance, communities agree to implement and enforce measures to reduce the possibilities of future damage through its Community Rating System - which King County is a part of.
